His past associations with national law firms include the New York office of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, the Los Angeles office of Hughes Hubbard & Reed, and the Los Angeles office of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison. July 2005 marked the 13th anniversary of Jonathan’s own firm. Mr. Stein has won seven 7-figure litigations in the last 8 years. His overall record in litigated matters in the last 13 years is 42 wins and 5 losses. Jonathan is regularly in trial, and has over 240 trial days before a judge or jury. Jonathan often represents businesses and high net worth individuals who are plaintiffs and who intend to go to trial quickly. He has litigated in federal and state courts in the following subject areas: contractual disputes, real estate matters, intellectual property disputes, entertainment matters, government tort liability, employment disputes and others.
Recent entertainment work includes ongoing representation of four of Hollywood’s top stunt coordinators and second unit directors, which has fundamentally changed how today’s highly sophisticated stunt work is insured and compensated. Jonathan always negotiates across the table from major studios, and has negotiated successful contracts with Disney (Hot Chick), Sony (Spiderman, Big Fish), Paramount (Paycheck), ABC-TV (Alias) and Universal (Jarhead), among others. Mr. Stein has been on winning trial teams in several 7-figure entertainment litigations for such luminaries as Pamela Anderson Lee. Recent corporate work includes representation of a minority shareholder in a hostile 8-figure takeover. As a result of his representation, the cashout price for her shares was increased by 400%. Mr. Stein has participated in over $1.4 billion in financial transactions on behalf of clients such as Chrysler, Lockheed, Security Pacific and Continental Airlines.Bar activities include (1) organizing TV debates for 8 constitutional offices in conjunction with the November 2006 California elections and the Beverly Hills Bar Association’s 75th anniversary; (2) production of a public service announcement featuring Chief Justice Ronald George in 2000, which helped promote “one day, one trial” jury service; and (3) design of a 21st Century jury room with the judges of the Santa Monica Court, which was dedicated in July 2002. Away from the practice of law, Jonathan regularly takes time to stay abreast of public affairs and to meet elected officials. Jonathan acts as casino developer for the Gabrielino-Tongva Tribe (http://www.GabrielinoTribe.org), the indigenous tribe of Los Angeles County, with over 1200 members.
